What it is
The IEB Campaign Portal is a private, invitation-only workspace run by ieb-personal-campaign. It helps a small team of approved volunteers organise outreach to IEB member engineers for the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) election, and keep track of who has been contacted. It is not an official IEB service.
- Find IEB members by center, division, university, passing year and similar details.
- Run outreach campaigns by phone call, SMS, WhatsApp and email, using shared message templates.
- Record outcomes, respect “do not contact” requests and limit how often anyone is contacted.
Volunteers can request access, but nobody sees any data until an admin approves them.
Sending email from your own Gmail
A volunteer can connect their own Gmail account so that campaign emails they start go out from their own address, one personal email per recipient. The portal asks Google for one Gmail permission only: “Send email on your behalf” (gmail.send). It cannot read, search or delete any email. The volunteer can disconnect at any time in the portal or in their Google Account.
How the portal handles Google user data is explained in the privacy policy. Team members also agree to the terms of use.
Maps and place names
“Voters near a place” shows approximate, area-level locations worked out from members’ mailing addresses, and spots that team members pinned on purpose. When a volunteer presses “Use my location”, their position is rounded to about 100 m in their browser and only that rounded point is sent to the server to run the search; the portal keeps no record of where volunteers are, except that a campaign they create from that search keeps the rounded point in its audience. Pinning a voter’s home or office saves the volunteer’s position at that moment as the voter’s location, with their name and the time.
Place names and coordinates: GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and © OpenStreetMap contributors (Nominatim, ODbL). Map tiles © OpenStreetMap contributors.
